What is fostering?
Fostering is a way of providing a family life for children who cannot live with their own parents.
It is often used to provide temporary care while parents who are trying
to get help to resolve the problems causing the breakdown of the family,
take a break, or to help children or young people through a difficult
period in their lives.
Quite often, children will return home once the predicaments that caused
them to come into foster care have been resolved and that it is apparent
that their parents are able to look after them safely.
Some other children may need to stay in long-term foster care, a few
may be adopted, and a number of the older children will move on to live
independently.
